It's a pity I put out a note about circuit training this Wednesday at Garlogie. As you'll appreciate no-one should be put at risk and bearing in mind road conditions plus the forecast for Wednesday I've decided to cancel the session. Normal service will be resumed on Wednesday 13 January - provided the weather eases.

2 CLAN 50 Challenge - A note of thanks for all the assistance in making our sponsored cycle event such a success. Acumen's grand total for the upprentice initiative was just in excess of £10k. Overall the event raised £135k, the largest single fundraising event in CLAN's history. Fantastic Mervyn Stanley

The Scottish Cycling Volunteer & Coaching Conference will take place at the Stirling Management Centre, University of Stirling on Saturday 16th January and Sunday 17th January 2010.

This Conference is Free of Charge (for some of the workshops British Cycling membership is required).

Cranks - November 2009

Cranks for November was on line at 2300 on Thursday 19 November 2009.

You will find links to it below.

Those of you who get paper Cranks may just have to wait a little longer this month. The small photocopier I have has breathed its last. Salvaged from a works redundant equipment store it served its purpose well for about 18 months but is now kaput. Currently I'm researching a printer/copier/scanner to replace several pieces of equipment and I hope to have something soon. I'll need to visit the library for you this month.

Those of you who do get Cranks by Royal Mail could try downloading your own copy and letting me know. It will save me a lot of effort. However, don't worry, if you do need to get paper I'll ensure it reaches you as soon as possible.

8.30 am- Rider sign on and Junior Gear check

** Please remember that only road bikes are allowed in the circuit. Due to the nature of the events time trial bikes, fixed wheel bikes or mountain bikes are not permitted.

9am- Open Track - Track familiarisation

9.25am- Track to be cleared

9.30am- Senior Stage 1- Prologue TT

60 Riders- riders will ride one lap from a standing start at 30 second intervals.

10.10am- Youth Race 1 + Go Ride events as per Ewan Murray

GRAMPIAN GRAND PRIX 29/08/2009

Dear DTCC,

I have already emailed Sandy in relation to the above event at the Grampian Transport Museum. Alford on Saturday 29 August 2009 and I think it was in Cranks.

The Senior Race has only 13 entrants and is in serious danger of being cancelled. Given that this event is aimed at improving the road racing situation in Aberdeenshire & City this is very disappointing. Supported by Aberdeenshire Council and Grampian Transport Museum the races are for all ages and abilities with several Go Ride Races for U16's, whilst Seniors will compete in a 1 lap prologue followed by two circuit races based on their prologue time.

Given the concerns over road safety that affect many riders when first faced with riding a RR this race is on a closed circuit with a grandstand start/finish, MC and Race Commentator, trophy for the winner and medals for the top three in each section.

The fact that a relatively small core group of racing cyclists/volunteers from the various ADCA clubs have barely managed to keep the open calendar running in the past few years it is essential that open racing within the North East survives and ultimately grows. Without this we will continue to see the decline of our sport and lose the youth riders who are showing great promise under the guidance of the Regional Coach and the Grampian Tigers.

I would be obliged if you could encourage DTCC members of all ages and abilities to consider entering the event, even if only 20 of your membership are able to race we will have a senior race and successful event. Details are on the BC Race Calendar or email grampiangrandprix@live.co.uk. A press release will also be going out to the media this week.

Evening League Event 15

Fastest tonight was Phil Kelman again, with Tom Barratt second and Chris Whittle third.

Winner of the handicap was Gillian Watt, with Gordon Smith second and a tie for third between Shelly Farrar and Steve Durham. Steve won the overall points, from Tom Barratt, with a tie for 3rd between Greg Banks, James Lowden and Phil Kelman.

Provisional winner of the Novices Competition was Peter Bartholomew (23.42), with Simon Munro second on 24.34 and Bruce Moroney 3rd with 24.44.

Overall there was no change with Phil Kelman, James Lowden and Chris Whittle in the top three spots.

Top females are Liz Chellingsworth 781, Shelley Farrar 772 and Cathy Wyse 731.

Best under 18 is Lewis Murchie with 782 and Phil Kelman leads the Vets.

Results published immediately after are subject to scrutiny so changes may take place and points awarded go up or down. Any anomalies please let me know. Errors that are spotted after the results are compiled now become more and more difficult to amend.

This Tuesday is the final league event this year. It's a 5TT from Garlogie and regardless what you may already have been told it starts at approximately the same point as the 10TT with the finish at the turn point beyond Echt. We've a wee bit of a social aspect to this event, too. If you are minded and have enjoyed the league this year I'll be pleased if you can bring along something to eat - sausage rolls, biscuits, sandwiches, homebakes are very welcome.

Firstly, good luck to the DTCC entrants to tomorrow's Scottish RR Championship event in Hawick.......wish I could be there too!

The RR season is rapidly running out but for those interested, there are still spaces left for entrants to the forthcoming Arthur Campbell Memorial RR in Balfron 23/08/09. We have some DTCC entrants already but the more the merrier, get your entries in fast!

Evening League Event 14 [Std]

A gie mochie nicht wi' a strong S wind was faster then I would have
expected. Dick and Stewart were saving themselves for the 50 next
Sunday and Stewart was recovering from last Sunday's 100 so the big
points were up for grabs. Phil didn't actually have to break the
course record for 50pts, but he did. Stewart will have to come back to
defend his second place for in the last two events.
Alan Milne did well to take third place in a close battle for the 50
category with Ian and Alan.
Shelley did a pb and is earning her ladies title by going faster each
week and should do a 24 if we have a good night for the last 10. I
think Ian (Wilson), her other half, also did a pb so the TT bikes are
paying off.

It was good to see Linda making an appearance on a night off from
being a swimming mum and breaking evens in her first TT since she won
the Ladies Standard plaque.

If you are wondering where the standard times come from you can find
them on the VTTA website. Click on Standards and
then on the link to the Standard Tables. I use the VTTA 10 and 25 mile
standards and adjust them for our 5, 12, 15, 18 and 20 mile TTs as
follows:
5 St=(10st/2); 12St=(10st+0.2*10st); 15St=(10st+5st);
18St=(20st-0.1*20st); 20St=(25St-5St)

Its all relative and as I've said before it keeps the old and slow
like me from giving up!

Phil Kelman established a new 10TT record time for our league in tonight's event. His 21.38 took 8 secs of Jon Copp's time from 2005. But surely the ride of the night came from Peter Bartholomew. Phil Kelman was a sizeable margin ahead of the rest of the field in a new record time. Chris Whittle was second in 23.03 and third came Tom Barratt in 23.16. Sherri Donaldson, a new slimmed down version, romped away with the handicap. She was followed by Peter Bartholomew and James Lowden.

Leading on points in this event is Peter Bartholomew on 156 followed by James Lowden on 153 and Phil Kelman on 150. Overall Phil Kelman still leads on 944. He's followed by James Lowden on 921 and Chris Whittle on 917. Top females are Liz Chellingsworth 760, Shelley Farrar 748 and Cathy Wyse 731. A good competition building there among the women. Best under 18 is Lewis Murchie with 782 and Phil Kelman leads the Vets.
